BEAT THE BOMB is a 1-hr team game to defuse a paint bomb… or get blasted! Mixing the best elements from escape rooms, immersive theater, and 80s action movie endings, players wearing hazmat suits must use intelligence, speed, and stealth to defeat high-tech “security systems” (multiplayer games) and defuse a paint bomb before it blasts them! Looking for a fun night out? A kids’ birthday party? A corporate test of teamwork + communication? Look no further!
Teams consist of 2-6 players! Groups larger than 6 players will be split up into smaller teams and started either at the same time or back-to-back right after each other. As a facility, we can accommodate groups of up to 40 people! How? We have 2 identical routes (A and B) that each can start a new team every 15 minutes.
BEAT THE BOMB is located at 247 Water Street, suite #106 (first floor past elevators back right) in DUMBO, Brooklyn, NY, 11201. It is just a few blocks from the York Street (F) Subway Stop in DUMBO, and a little longer of a walk but still close to the A/C at High Street, the 2/3 at Clark Street, and the 4/5 at Borough Hall. We love kids, and kids love Beat The Bomb (with paint + lasers + smoke machines, you understand why!) To date we’ve hosted dozens of school groups and kids’ parties! Beat The Bomb is really best for kids ages 10 years old and up, but we can accommodate as young as 8 years old (no younger). For kids’ groups, (a) we ask that there be at least 1 adult in our facility able to watch them on CCTV, or act as their guardian in the case of any issues, and (b) you make us aware if any child is under 4-foot tall, as one of the game’s sensors doesn’t pick you up and we need to make allowance for that pre-game. At the current time, participants must be at least 8 years old if supervised in the room by teenage siblings or adults, or at least 10 years old if it’s… just a group of kids.
Yes. For legal reasons we will require all participants and/or their guardians to sign a liability waiver. For adults, this is done on-site at Beat The Bomb at 247 Water Street, Suite 106, Brooklyn NY 11201. For minors, we require them to come with a parent or guardian who can sign their waiver, or to have their parent or guardian sign it in advance at THIS LINK.
We will provide standard gym lockers (and locks) upon your arrival for backpacks, purses, small shoulder bags, and coats. Note however that large backpacks, roller bags, shopping bags, suitcases etc. will have to sit on top of the lockers in an unsecured fashion.
Just over 60 minutes. There will be a 5 minute introduction, 55 minutes of game play, and a 5 minute exit process. Please arrive 10 minutes before your entrance time. If your team arrives more than 15 minutes LATE for your entry time, we reserve the right to cancel your booking entirely, or reschedule you later that day or another day! Unfortunately we CANNOT allow LATE arrivals to postpone the the scheduling of ONTIME participants or back up our entire night of subsequent customers. PLEASE DO NOT BE LATE!
No. BEAT THE BOMB will provide all participants with a protective outer layer as well as head and face protection. The suit goes over your feet, like a onesie, so that your shoes are protected. That said, please leave your best suede shoes, or your white Giorgio Armani or Gucci at home, just to be on the safe side. Also please be sure to wear clothing and shoes that you can move around comfortably in at all times.
Everyone loves a good selfie! Yes you can bring your phones in with you, and take all the photos and videos that you want! In fact, we provide you with fanny packs for THAT VERY PURPOSE.
Unlike regular escape rooms, none of our challenges are ‘spoiled’ by any other people seeing them. You just may not want to have your iPhone X out in front of you in the bomb room… SPLAT!
Yes, we provide you with Fanny Packs to allow you to keep your phones with you through the experience.
No. It is like a firehose of paint hitting you, but it does not hurt. It is NOT paintball. We repeat NO paintballs or paintball guns are used in the mechanics of the paint bomb!
Yes, BEAT THE BOMB is extremely safe. Every room is monitored by audio and video surveillance at all times. None of the doors are locked. You can leave at any time if you are feeling uncomfortable by following our red illuminated Exit signs above the doorways. Please see our specific warnings below on “Do I Have to Be In Decent Shape…” “Photosensitive seizure warning” and “Pregnancy warning.”
Beat The Bomb is not meant to be a test of physical fitness, strength, or endurance. However, you will be encouraged to run, crawl, and bend yourself through the Laser Maze game back and forth for 10 minutes (it can get sweaty!) You will also have to move your position around a 10×14′ room in the Floor Grid game to make different patterns, also for 10 mins. A very small percentage of people may experience a seizure when exposed to certain visual images, including flashing lights or patterns that may appear in video games. Even people who have no history of seizures or epilepsy may have an undiagnosed condition that can cause these “photosensitive epileptic seizures” while playing a game such as Beat The Bomb.
These seizures may have a variety of symptoms, including lightheadedness, altered vision, eye or face twitching, jerking or shaking of arms or legs, disorientation, confusion, or momentary loss of awareness. Seizures may also cause loss of consciousness or convulsions that can lead to injury from falling down or striking nearby objects.
Immediately stop playing Beat The Bomb and consult a doctor if you experience any of these symptoms. Parents should watch for or ask their children about the above symptoms. Children and teenagers are more likely than adults to experience these seizures.
The risk of photosensitive epileptic seizures may be reduced by avoiding playing Beat The Bomb while you are drowsy or fatigued. Moreover, if you or any of your relatives have a history of seizures or epilepsy, consult a doctor before playing.
This is entirely up to your discretion. We encourage you to play, and then sit out any games or elements of games you don’t feel comfortable doing. But please consult your own doctor. Here is information you will want to know while doing that:
1) The ground in places can be slippery, particularly as you step up into the bomb room (elevated 8″), or are in the bomb room itself (think “paint-everywhere” room). Also, all of our rooms are dark. Tripping or slipping are not likely, but they cannot be ruled out! You’ll need to be extra careful!
2) The Laser Maze is quite active, and encourages you to run, crawl, and bend your way back and forth across a laser maze in a 10′ x 20′ room. However, you can decide which laser patterns you want to attempt, as well as play the “coach” on the sidelines if you’d like to sit this one out (if so, start practicing your “watch that Laser!”)
3) The Bomb itself may give you pause. This is a blast of paint at 30-40psi. It is NOT paintballs. Rather, it is like a firehose of paint sprayed at you. Imagine being hit with a hard spray of paint/water mix. We’d be happy to show you a demonstration before you begin. And if you want to sit it out, we’d be happy to have you as our guest in the Control Room, sitting with our Bomb Tech to watch your team play the final game!
